A Local War on Waste – Groceries2Go and The Port Grocery
As well as give back to our community, another goal of ours is to reduce waste. This month, we were able to make a good step towards that goal.
As a business that deals predominantly with food and household goods, waste is inevitable. And while there is nothing we can do to fully prevent that, it is very important to us that we do something to contribute to the prevalent war on waste. This month, we got involved with the amazing, not-for-profit company – The Port Grocery.
The Port Grocery is a community-interest company based in Ellesmere Port – working “with the community, for the community”. Their aim is to divert as much food from landfill as they can, by acquiring “imperfect” food products and produce – such as wonky fruit and veg – and items that are past their sell-by date, but still in perfect (and safe!) edible condition.
Not only do The Port Grocery strive to combat landfill-by-food-waste, they also endeavour to reduce poverty in the community. With the foods that they acquire, the team at The Port Grocery work passionately to create meal boxes, as well as crates of food products and produce, at unbeatable value – available to anyone and everyone within the community.
To keep the world and communities a better and more wholesome place, it is important that The Port Grocery continue to get donations – be it monetary or food. We are delighted to be part of their initiative and will continue to contribute moving forwards!
